American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIST)

Founded in 1937, the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIST) concerns itself with information theory, technique, technology and improved access and is for individuals who share a common interest in improving the ways society stores, retrieves, analyzes, manages, archives and disseminates information. ASIST counts among its membership some 4,000 information specialists from such fields as computer science, linguistics, management, librarianship, engineering, law, medicine, chemistry, and education.

Digital Library Federation

The Digital Library Federation is a consortium of libraries and related agencies that are pioneering in the use of electronic-information technologies to extend their collections and services. DLF helps to start projects and services, identifies standards and best practices and coordinates research and development in libraries.

Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is an independent federal agency that supports all types of museums, libraries and archives with the intent to expand the education benefit of these institutions by encouraging partnerships. IMLS administers the Library Services and Technology Act and the Museum Services Act and receives policy advice from the Presidentially appointed, Senate confirmed National Museum and Library Services Board.

Preserving Access to Digital Information (PADI)

The National Library of Australia’s Preserving Access to Digital Information (PADI) initiative aims to provide mechanisms that will help to ensure that information in digital form is managed with appropriate consideration for preservation and future access.The PADI web site is a subject gateway to digital preservation resources. It has an associated discussion list “padiforum-l” for the exchange of news and ideas about digital preservation issues.
